Beans, beans, beans!

 Thank you Ellie for sending these photos of our beans in action. The 3 plates on the left show a purple bean colour test: the top plate has boiled beans, the middle ones were steamed and those on the bottom plate were stir fried in a little oil. The bean salad on the right is seriously delicious and ideal for a light Summer meal (dry white wine and crusty bread obligatory companions!).

4 Pumpkins

Had a look this afternoon in one of our pumpkin patches. I spotted this plant that has 4 good-sized pumpkins set on it already. Normally this variety would give us one or maybe 2 big fruits so it could be a good pumpkin season coming up!

Jewel Wasp

This Jewel Wasp, Hedychrum nobile, is a new farm species this year, and only the second record for Worcestershire. It is parasitic on the digger wasp Cerceris arenaria.

Cuckooflower etc.

Two interesting spots today include a Cuckooflower or Lady's Smock which has the small orange eggs of the Orange-tip Butterfly laid upon it. The lower picture shows a medieval hand made gun flint for an early flintlock gun.
