Halloween Harvest

Norchard Farm is mostly pumpkin orange right now. The fields and yard are full of Monsters, Carvers, Mediums, Cooking Pumpkins, Munchkins and Mixed Squash. We've got two selling weekends before All Hallows Eve and the schools have broken up for Half Term. Our husbandry has been almost too good this year; many of the Carver size have grown so big they are now classed as Monsters. Hopefully we can swap the sales around to make sure the crop is not wasted - we don't want too many left on November 1st!

Soil Association Visit

Liz and Honor from the Soil Association brought 7 potential recruits into the Food Industry over to Norchard on Saturday. We had a good discussion on the career opportunities out there and how our business operates. We also found time to check out how the asparagus fern is looking.

Crop Walking

Ollie is keen to get out crop walking. We have teams out this morning cutting mixed squash, cooking pumpkins and courgettes. We are also picking runner, green and fine beans, many of which will be packed by the pack house teams. The Norchard Dynamos squad had their final training session last night before the big international football match against the Torton Turds tomorrow - kick off 10.30 am Waresley Green.

Godalmingers on Tour

Ellie Jearum (nee Southall) brought her friends up from Surrey for a farm and pack house tour. They were a great help in forming a tasting panel for our Mixed Squash varieties. We loved the differing tastes, textures and flesh colours of the squashes. We will work out some tasty recipes to match with the squash and the best beverages to wash them down with......

Bean Salad and Bolly

Green Beans are really good for you - they are high in fibre, antioxidants and minerals. Eaten regularly they can help with weight management. Try serving them in a salad, like in the photo. Steam or boil the beans al dente then chill in iced water before adding to green leaves. Crusty bread, salad dressing and a glass of Bolly are optional but take some beating!
